Description

Greystones is a house dating from the late 18th century, part of a small group of buildings located on Nottington Lane in Weymouth. It is constructed of rubble with a hipped slate roof and features an L-plan layout across three floors, situated directly alongside the River Wey.

The exterior includes sash windows set in plain band surrounds with stone sills. The short hipped end facing the street has a 12-pane window above a 15-pane window, both with flush alternating jamb stones. On the ground floor, there is a large late 19th-century square bay window with a hipped roof and casements. The southern return front has two small 4-pane windows at the eaves, above a 4-pane and a 12-pane window (four panes wide), plus a small 6-pane casement. The ground floor features a 4-pane window and a 19th-century glazed door with a shallow transom light.

A rubble wall with a slate roof runs across the internal angle. The return wing facing the road has an 8-pane window at the eaves, a 12-pane and a 16-pane window, along with a fixed 6-pane window on the first floor, and a 4-pane window on the ground floor. The end gable is plain, and the building has two ridge stacks and a gable stack at the right-hand end. The rear wall features 3x3 sash windows, some with bars, and two small inserted lights.

To the right of the gable facing the road, there is a short section of wall with a pointed arch over a plank door, adorned with two carved stone pelicans above. These pelicans were originally part of the Stewart family crest from the now-demolished Nottington House. The property was formerly known as the 'Boarding House' and was built in connection with the nearby Spa, which is located directly opposite.
