Description
Riverview Cottage and Stayer Cottage are a pair of attached houses located on Nottington Lane in Weymouth. They were built in the early 19th century and feature squared and coursed stone with slate roofs. The cottages are two storeys high and have a total of five windows on the front, all of which are original 16-pane sash windows set in rendered surrounds with stooled stone sills.
Riverview Cottage has a centrally located two-panel door with a small transom light above it. Stayer Cottage features a gabled porch with a 20th-century door situated between the window bays. To the right, there is a straight joint, and the left end of the building is double hipped, with a central 16-pane window at eaves level above a low gabled wing that spans across the river.
Both cottages have two chimney stacks at the eaves, and the rear side includes four 16-pane sash windows above a late 20th-century conservatory for Stayer Cottage, while Riverview has two 16-pane windows. The River Wey flows directly behind the cottages and passes under the bridged end of the low gabled wing. The interior has not been inspected. It is likely that these cottages were built around the same time as the nearby Spa, serving it in some subsidiary capacity.
