Description
The Manor House is a detached house dating largely to 1698, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with a stone slate roof, featuring coped verges and gable end brick stacks. The building follows an L-shaped plan and has six windows on its front facade. A gabled stone porch is situated to the left of the centre, with a moulded, square-headed doorway, a saddleback coped verge, an inner planked door, and two-light recessed cyma-mullioned casements on either side. A 28-pane fixed shop window is also present. A string course runs along the first floor, above which are six two-light mullioned casements, and a cavetto-moulded stone eaves cornice. A single-storey rubble stone extension sits to the left return. A rear gabled wing extends to the left, and the first floor of the main range features two-light casements. A lean-to at the rear of the right portion of the house has a three-light casement.
Inside, the drawing room to the right of the entrance has a notable bolection-moulded stone fireplace surround with fielded stone panels to the curved fire back. It also includes a chamfered beam and cupboards with fielded panel doors. The entrance hall retains full panelling, moulded ceiling beams, a closed string staircase with twisted balusters, a wide moulded handrail, and square newels set against the rear wall, although some parts may be reset. The former kitchen, located to the left, contains an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs.
