Milepost Opposite Willow Lodge School

The milepost opposite Willow Lodge School is a cast iron structure from the mid-19th century. It has a triangular shape with a sloping top and is painted white, featuring black lettering. The cast relief lettering in capitals reads: on the east face, "4 WARE HAM"; on the top, "POOLE TRUST"; and on the west face, "4 POOLE".

This milepost is part of a series established by the Poole Turnpike Trust, which was created by an Act of Parliament in 1757, although this specific marker dates from the 19th century. It was relocated several metres to the east around 1905 when the Dorchester Road was diverted.

The milepost is designated at Grade II because, despite its relocation during early 20th-century road work, the distances it displays are still accurate, and it remains intact. It is part of a group of similar mileposts along this route, some of which are already listed.
