Description

This is a milepost located on Widcombe Hill, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is made of sandstone and cast iron. The tall stone post, which stands about 1.5 meters high and is approximately 450 millimeters wide, is built into the boundary wall of an adjacent property, which is not included in the listing. The post features a square cast iron plate with raised lettering and edging, displaying the inscription: "1 Mile/from the/Guildhall/BATH," painted in black on a white background. The milepost is situated approximately 20 meters east of the entrance gates to Crowe Hall and is in good condition, though the plate may have been replaced. It was presumably erected by the Bath Turnpike Trust and remained in use for many years, with similar mileposts seen attached to buildings from the 1860s in various locations.
