Description

Lytchett Minster Parish Church is an Anglican parish church located on Dorchester Road. The tower dates from the 15th century, while the rest of the church was rebuilt between 1833 and 1834 by John Tulloch of Wimborne. The tower features ironstone walls, and the remainder of the church is constructed from buff brick set on an ironstone base, possibly reusing stone from an earlier church. The building has low-pitched slate roofs with coped gables and wide eaves, designed in the Commissioners' Gothic style.

The church comprises a nave, chancel, north vestry, south porch, and west tower. The tower has three stages, with angle buttresses on the lowest stage and a battlemented parapet. A polygonal stair turret is located on the north wall, and the belfry features two-light square-headed windows, with a slit window below the belfry on the south wall. The west wall has a doorway that was altered in the 19th century, and the window above it has had its tracery removed.

The south porch has a gabled roof topped with a pinnacled slate sundial and a carved head beneath it. The porch's angle buttresses have octagonal pinnacles, and it features a pointed arched doorway with continuous mouldings. The nave and the north and south walls of the chancel contain pointed arched windows, originally with Y-tracery, though some have had this removed. One window in the south wall of the nave was altered in the late 19th century and now has a 4-centred arch. The east window of the chancel is a three-light window with Perpendicular style tracery, and there are angle buttresses on both the nave and chancel.

Inside, the porch has a plaster quadripartite vault with moulded ribs and a tablet commemorating the rebuilding in 1833. The inner doors are panelled oak, and the nave and chancel feature canted ceilings with some ornamental plasterwork. There is a west gallery with a panelled front supported by timber columns, and an early 19th-century carved Royal Arms. A simple 15th-century octagonal stone font is also present.
