Description
Part of Sherborne School is located on the exterior of the north transept of the Abbey Church. This is a two-storey building with a section of the roof forming a passage known as a "slype" at the south end of the east cloister range. On the lower floor, there are two 13th-century vaulted chambers; the eastern chamber features a quadripartite vault, while the western chamber has two parallel barrel vaults. An external staircase leads to the upper floor. There is also a large 16th-century buttress against the west wall of the passage. The buildings of Sherborne School surround the greens immediately to the north of the Abbey Church of St Mary, creating a cohesive group with the church itself.
