Description

48 Chamberlaine Road is a coach house that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building features painted rubble, some rendering, and ashlar stonework at the gateway, topped with a slate roof. It is a small gabled structure with two storeys and three windows. On the first floor, there are two-light small-pane casements set in plat band surrounds with segmental heads and thin sills. The ground floor includes a small lunette window to the left, followed by a rendered panel that contains a wide segmental arch over a smaller arched tripartite sash window, along with a 20th-century door with a segmental head. The gables have coped verges, and there is a small brick chimney stack on the right side. The rear of the building has been modified in the late 20th century.

Attached to the right of the house is a boundary wall that is approximately 12 metres long and 3 metres high, made of rubble with a straight joint. This wall drops down to the right over a short length of ashlar walling, which has weathered coping and features a segmental-headed archway with a door. Although the facade has been altered, it, along with the boundary wall and gateway, significantly enhances the streetscape.
