Description
Oban Cottage is a house located at the end of a row in Wyke Regis, dating from the late 18th century to the mid 19th century. It features English bond brickwork, a rendered gable, a rubble back, and a slate roof. The cottage has a symmetrical front with a one-storey lean-to on the right side, which returns to Chamberlaine Road. There is also a lower parallel range that covers about two-thirds of the back. The building is two storeys high with three windows, which are margin-pane sashes set in moulded flush boxes. The ground floor windows have flush brick segmental relieving arches above them.
A central panelled and part-glazed 19th-century door is accessed by three steps and is situated under a gabled porch that has decorative barge-boards and glazed cheeks on half-height brick walls. The cottage has a small rubble plinth and brick gable stacks. The lean-to is rendered but has a brick front wall that matches the main frontage, topped with a brick coping and featuring a wide plank door. The return side of the lean-to has one light. While the sash windows suggest a mid-19th-century date, the brickwork and sash boxes appear to be older. The interior has not been inspected.
