Description
Patch House, originally a coach house and now a surgery, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed from local stone, either squared or random rubble, with brick and ashlar dressings, and features a clay pantiled roof that has a stepped coped west gable and is hipped at the east end. The building is positioned at right angles to the street.
The exterior is single-storey with random fenestration. The roadside gable includes a former coach gateway with brick jambs and a segmental arched head that has a keystone; this gateway is now blocked and features a 3-light casement window, which incorporates jamb-stones with remnants of former hinges. Above this, there is a 12-pane casement pivot window set beneath a timber lintel. The south side has a blind segmental arch at the west end, followed by three doors, one of which is a 6-panel door. Above the center door is a round window, possibly with a cast-iron casement, and to the right is a 16-pane sash window. The left side features 20th-century casements and a 20th-century door beneath a pent roof.
The interior has not been inspected. A notable feature is the high boundary wall made of stone rubble with coping, which extends from the southwest corner of the building. This wall has a gateway with a segmental brick arch and keystone, along with a 20th-century door, contributing positively to the street scene. The property was originally associated with No. 14, has undergone significant modifications, but still retains important group value.
