Description

No. 25 New Street is a house with an office or shop, dating from the early 19th century, likely representing the refronting of an earlier property. It is constructed of local stone random rubble, with the southern end rendered. The roof is covered with clay pantiles and features coped gables and brick chimney stacks.

The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a varied arrangement of windows. It consists of a long range of structures, with the shop located at the southern end, which projects significantly from No. 23. The south gable includes a small shop window with two lights and a three-light return along the street side, all set beneath a shallow fascia. To the left, there is a six-flush panel door framed in timber with a flat timber hood supported by iron brackets. On the first floor, there is a 12-pane sash window. Further along the street elevation, there is another six-flush panel door within a heavy frame, also with a timber hood on iron brackets. To the left of this door, there is a small-pane casement window, with two more above it, as well as two additional casements further north and an attic window in a raked dormer with two lights.

The interior has not been inspected but is said to retain 19th-century joinery and cast-iron fireplaces.
