BEAMINSTER THE SQUARE ST 4701/4801 (SOUTH SIDE) 12.6.53 7/166 No 23 (Chemists and Grocers) GV II

Single House now 2 shops. Premises of Eric Smalley, Chemist and K. R. Crane, Grocer. c. C17 with major C18 refashioning. Lias rubble walls. Ashlar stone eaves-cornice. Slate roof with stone gable-copings. One brick stack at left hand gable. 2 storeys and attics. 3 windows, total. Chemists' window: canted bay with 3 large panels with wooden divisions. Grocer's: Balancing rounded bay windows with glazing-bars. Separate 'friezes' but continuous moulded wooden cornice over. Front door to grocer's: wooden with 6 glass panels. Front door to left (Chemist's) wooden, 2-leaf, with flush and recess panels. Wooden pedimented canopy with dentil cornice, carried on bracketed supports.
