Description
Numbers 21 and 22 on The Square are attached houses dating from the late 18th century, with some changes made around 1900. They have walls made of lias rubble and a slate roof featuring stone gable-coping on the right side, which is half-hipped. The buildings are two storeys tall and have three windows on the first floor, which are sashes with glazing bars. The left side of the ground floor has a shop front with large panes divided by wooden columns and a modillion-type cornice above. The former front doorway in the centre has been replaced with one large glass panel, flanked by fluted Tuscan pilasters, and there is a plain frieze and imposts above. Number 22 is one bay wide and also two storeys tall, featuring a shop front with glass panels on either side and a continuous cornice above. The central front door is made of wood with a large glass panel, dating from the 19th century. Inside, there is a stone fireplace with a Tudor-arch head, recess spandrels, and moulded jambs, which dates back to around the 16th century.
