Description
Number 4 Cavendish Circus is a shop built in the late 19th century. It features ashlar gritstone with ashlar dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is a single storey with an original recessed shop front flanked by outer ashlar pilasters. Above the shop front is a narrow fascia board topped with a deep curved parapet. The shop front includes a central doorway with a pediment and a glazed door, along with canted two-light windows on either side that have broad sills and gilded inscription panels, as well as glazed panels below. Above this is a continuous seven-light window with leaded square pane glazing. Inside, the shop retains high-quality original fittings, including ornate carved wooden shelves, curved counters, medicinal stores, and a clock. This establishment is a rare example of a 19th-century pharmacy with its original fittings still intact.
