Description
Wessex News is a shop built around 1830. It features ashlar stone and pebbledash rendering, all painted, and has a hipped Welsh slate roof with a very shallow pitch and no visible chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high with two bays and a one-bay return on the east side. It has a plinth, pilasters decorated with incised anthemion ornament, and an eaves course. The fascia serves as a string course. On the upper floor, there are 12-pane sash windows, some of which have crown glass panes. On the ground floor, there is a 16-pane display window to the right of a 20th-century part-glazed door with a diamond-glazed fanlight above. The east return matches the main façade, featuring a 12-pane display window that is likely original, set over recessed ashlar stone stall risers. The interior has not been seen, but the ground floor has been altered.
