Description

Messrs T R and P D Clews Shop and Store, including attached outbuildings, is a building located on the north side of The Square in Corfe Castle. It has origins dating back to the 17th century, with the store (formerly a cottage) on the right dating from this period, while the main part of the building is from the 18th century. The structure features colourwashed rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof that is half hipped at the left end, with a stack situated at the right end.

The main block consists of two storeys and an attic. It has a shop door and a flush door with a fanlight. The ground floor also includes two plain shop windows, one of which is a sash window with glazing bars, along with evidence of an earlier blocked window. On the first floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars, and the attic features one hipped dormer with casements that have horizontal glazing bars.

At the left end, there is a single-storey lean-to extension that matches the main construction. The rear of the property has a range of attached outbuildings, also built in matching materials. The former cottage on the right, now used as a store, is a single storey with an attic. It has one ledged door and one flush door, both under segmental arches, and the ground floor has one casement window with glazing bars beneath a similar arch. The attic includes one gabled half-dormer with sash windows that have glazing bars. This building is a National Trust property.
