Description

The Village Cross, including a pump, is located in the center of The Square in Corfe Castle. It was erected in 1897 and features an earlier base. The cross stands on a podium of four steps and has an octagonal tapered shaft topped with a foliated cross. Inscriptions on each face of the base read: "VR 1837-1897", "Erected on the steps of the Ancient Market Cross", and "This Cross was erected to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Victoria". To the east side of the cross is a timber-cased pump with a lead spout, and the trough is filled solid.
