Description
The Town House is a late 18th-century building located in Corfe Castle, incorporating the former Mayor's Parlour and Robing Room, which are now used as Church Rooms accessed from the rear at an upper level. The structure features ashlar stone walls, a stone slate roof, and brick end stacks, with one stack positioned left of center. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a full-height round-ended projection at its center.
On the ground floor, there is an oak ledged door beneath a lintel with a projecting keystone. Above this, on the first floor, is a curved bay window that extends above the eaves, topped with a half-hipped roof and fitted with casements that have lead lights. Flanking the projection on the ground floor are two casements, each with lead lights, also under lintels with projecting keystones. On the first floor, there is one casement with lead lights on either side of the bay window. The attic features two hipped dormers with casements that also have lead lights.
Internally, the main ground floor rooms are notable for their large open fireplaces with timber lintels. The Robing Room on the first floor has a curved plaster ceiling. The Town House is a property of the National Trust.
