Description
This is a group of three pairs of semi-detached estate cottages located on The Moor in Puddletown. They were built between 1857 and 1861 by Lord Orford. The walls are of flint with brick banding, featuring brick dressings. The roofs are slate, with brick end and centre stacks. The cottages are two storeys high.
Number 3, at the left end, has a flush door. The ground floor has two casement windows with glazing bars, each set beneath a segmental arch. The first floor has two 20th-century casement windows also under segmental arches. Number 4 has a 20th-century part-glazed door within a weatherboarded porch. Both the ground and first floors have two casement windows with glazing bars, again under segmental arches. Numbers 5 and 6 have lean-to extensions built to match the original construction. Number 5 has a 20th-century brick porch with a part-glazed door and one casement window with glazing bars. Both the ground and first floors have two casement windows with glazing bars, under segmental arches. A plastered and slated rear extension serves Number 5. Number 6 has a part-glazed door in a timber porch. The ground floor has two casements, while the first floor has two horizontally sliding sash windows with glazing bars.
Numbers 7 and 8 have lost their end chimneys. Number 7 has a ledged door, and the ground and first floors each have two casement windows with glazing bars under segmental arches. Number 8 has a part-glazed door. The ground and first floors each have two plain casement windows under segmental arches; one first floor window opening has been enlarged. A single-storey, flat-roofed brick extension is located at the right end of Number 8.
