Description

The Methodist Chapel, dated 1849, is a small chapel constructed from hammer-dressed stone blocks with a slate roof. It features a gable facing the street and has two 19th-century 16-pane sash windows with stone sills on either side of a central gabled porch that has a slab roof. The porch contains a pair of plank doors with a segmental head. The chapel has coped gables with cross-roll saddle stones. Although it is a modest building, its street front remains unchanged, except for a later inscription reading "Southwell Methodist Church 1849" above the doors. This chapel is a complete representation of the significant role that Methodism played in the social history of the area.
