Description
The Methodist Chapel on Chapel Street in Whitehills dates back to 1840. It is a simple rectangular chapel with three bays, featuring a squared mixed rubble frontage accented by contrasting tooled sandstone dressings. The gables are harled, each with a central projecting harled porch that has a piended roof. The street-facing (south) and rear elevations are illuminated by three large round-headed windows, which have simple Y-tracery and multi-pane glazing. Each gable has two oculi, with the eastern gable topped by a datestone. The chapel is adorned with apex ball finials and has a slate roof with a tiled ridge.
The chapel is enclosed by a simple coped rubble wall, with a pair of tooled rubble gatepiers flanking each of the two pedestrian entrances, which are closed by simple cast-iron spearhead gates.
Inside, the chapel has a re-cast interior to the west. It features a diagonal plank front for the Communion table and a door in the west wall, along with a plain plank dado and pine pews.
