11/116 The Tithe Barn 26.1.56 GV I
Tithe Barn, partly converted to private house (south end). Late C14, with late C18 conversion to house, and Cl9 restoration. Chamfered stone plinth and knapped flint walls, weathered stone buttresses to the bay divisions. Stone slate roof. Brick stacks on south gable-end, and on ridge just south of porch. Barn of 5 bays with 2 original opposed porches. House of 4 bays, immediately south of porches. Barn: long straight- chamfered loops to each bay. The porches have outer entrances with double-chamfered jambs and two-centred heads, with gables over. The House has pointed-arch windows with moulded jambs and labels over. Metal and iron casements with intersecting glazing-bars in the heads. Front door to house, one bay from the end, with a pointed and moulded arch doorhead and a fanlight with intersecting glazing-bars, plank-and-muntin door, C20. South gable wall has 3 storeys of pointed windows, 2 wide, same type with C20 metal casements. Interior: roof of barn entirely reconstructed C20. Scheduled Ancient Monument, Dorset 26a.
