Description

No. 8 The Folly is a detached house located on the south side of Cerne Abbas, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The walls are constructed of painted brick and flint, with some areas rendered. The main roof is thatched, while the single-storey lean-tos are slated and feature stone gable-copings. There are brick stacks at the gable ends, and the building has a double depth with a rear gable that may have been added later. Stacks are present on the ridge and on the rear gable. The house is two storeys high and has three sash windows with glazing bars. The front door is centrally located and features flush and recessed panels with two top lights, also from the 18th century. A wooden porch with a tiled gabled roof was added in the 20th century.
