Description
The Old Saddler is a former saddler's shop that has been converted into shop premises and a house. It dates from the early 19th century and underwent extensive alterations to an earlier structure. The building features rubble-stone walls that are rendered and painted, with slate roofs and a renewed brick stack located behind the ridge. It stands three storeys tall, with two windows facing Long Street and three windows on Duck Street, primarily consisting of 19th-century sashes with thin glazing bars. There is one blocked window on the first floor of Duck Street.
Notable architectural details include early 19th-century segmental box windows flanking the corner entrance, each with 44 panes (11 by 4) and wooden cills supported on wooden corbels. A continuous cornice projects forward over the door. On the first floor facing Long Street, there is a segmental bow window with plain pilasters and square imposts. The corner entrance has a two-leaf front door that is flush-panelled with marginal glazing bars above, dating from the 19th century. Additionally, there is a second door on Duck Street that is from the 20th century.
