Description

Two attached cottages stand on the west side of Acreman Street in Cerne Abbas. Dating largely to the 18th century, with No. 7 specifically dated 1727, the cottages are constructed of chalk blocks with knapped flint walls, featuring chalk-block quoins. A corrugated iron roof sits atop the structure, concealing an earlier thatch layer. Brick stacks are situated at each gable end. The cottages are two storeys high with four windows. The windows are 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars, dating to the 19th century, featuring wood cills and lintels. Front doors are both positioned off-centre, near the pantry wall, and are 20th-century replacements, with No. 7's door being plank. Above the doorway of No. 7 is a carved head depicting an animal, a medieval feature.
