Description
Lime Mead Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse that has been altered into two tenements. It is situated down a slope, positioned at right angles to the lane. The building dates from the late 16th century, with changes made in the 19th century including new windows, raised eaves, and additional alterations in the 20th century. The walls are made of shallow rubble stone, featuring both random and coursed work. The roofs are covered with corrugated iron, with thatch underneath, and there is stone gable coping at the south end. Brick stacks are located at the gable ends. The farmhouse is 1.5 storeys tall and has two windows on the east elevation, which are hollow-chamfered stone mullions with three lights each; the southern window has a separate returned label. The window casements are made of wood and iron. The half-dormers contain 2-light and 3-light wooden casements from the 20th century. There are two doorways: one to the left of centre is a plank door with strap hinges from the 19th century, while the right of centre doorway is a wood and glazed door from the 20th century. Inside, the north end room features a 16th-century ceiling divided into four main compartments, with deep-chamfered beams. There is an open fireplace with a heavy deep-chamfered wood bressumer above, and a 19th-century bread oven on the left side. The roof is constructed of jointed cruck with two sets of butted through-purlins.
