Description
Manor Farm Cottage is a detached former farmhouse, now a private dwelling, dating to the early 16th century. It was refenestrated and consolidated in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rubble-stone walls and has a thatched roof with gable ends. There are 20th-century white brick stacks at the gable ends. The cottage is one-and-a-half storeys high with four windows, five to the ground floor. The windows have wood mullions, painted, of 2, 3, and 4 lights, with iron casements and lead lights. Most windows have wood lintels. Eyebrow dormers are present, each a 2-light casement, with projecting boards on the sides of the casement frames to protect the thatch. A plank door is located to the right of centre and has a wood lintel above.
The interior of the ground floor centre room features moulded and compartmented ceiling beams with hollow, roll, and hollow mouldings, dating to the 16th century. There are plank-and-muntin partitions, also from the 16th century, with renewed cill-beams. Flagstone floors are present. The south end room has an open fireplace with stone monolith jambs and a cambered, chamfered lintel, also dating to the 16th century. A spiral staircase is located in the right-hand side of the fireplace, in its original position, although the wooden treads have been renewed. A fireplace against a cross-passage was removed and a new staircase inserted in the 20th century. The roof is of jointed-cruck construction, with collars, and has been much altered.
