Description
Glebe House is a former rectory, now a private residence, dating from the mid-19th century. It features rubble-stone walls with ashlar quoins arranged in long-and-short work, and has steeply pitched slate roofs with stone gable copings. The building has clustered octagonal stone stacks with moulded cornices and tapering caps located on the ridge of the entrance front and at the north and south ends.
The west (entrance) elevation consists of two storeys and dormers, with four windows on the ground floor: a 4-light porch, a 2-light window, and a 3-light window. The first floor has a 3-light window, followed by two 2-light windows, and another 3-light window. All windows feature straight-chamfered stone mullions that are cross-transomed, with straight stops at the bottom and roll-and-stop at the top. The vertical sashes have one horizontal glazing bar, and there are relieving arches over the ground floor windows.
The porch, located to the left of centre, is made of ashlar and has a steeply pitched gable with stone coping and a solid cross-in-wheel above. The doorway has a segmental-pointed head with two straight chamfers and a 2-leaf plank door with strap hinges, dating from the 19th century. The south elevation has an irregular gable, with the left gable being higher than the right. It features stone mullions that are transomed with four, three, and two lights, and there is a 19th-century plank door to the garden on the right of centre. The east elevation includes a canted bay window on the ground floor. Glebe House is noted for its massing and its group value with the nearby church and cottages.
