Description

These are two semi-detached cottages, originally built as a single range, dating from the mid-18th century. The cottages have walls constructed of dressed stone with ashlar stone quoins. The roof is slate, with gable ends and stone gable copings. There are brick stacks, some from the 18th century and others from the 19th century, located at the left-hand gable, along the ridge approximately in the centre, and at the right-hand gable. The cottages have two storeys and five windows in total. These windows feature 3-light stone mullions with moulded architraves, and contain 20th-century metal casements with lead lights. Doorways are located to the left and right of centre, both with dressed stone jambs and square heads. The cottage on the right, known as The Old House, has a glazed 19th-century door within a stone porch with a gabled stone roof. No. 2, on the left, has a 20th-century plank and muntin door. A rear range to No. 1 mirrors the front elevations and details, with a brick stack on the rear gable. Attached front walls are constructed of rubble stone and have stone copings, with one corner ramped. The entrances to the houses are flanked by dressed stone jambs.
