Description

The outbuilding immediately north of Halstock House is a detached former farmhouse, now used for storage, dating from the early 17th century. It features rubble-stone walls, with some sections of cob walling and brick infill, topped by a corrugated iron roof with gable ends. A brick stack is located at the left-hand gable. The building is one and a half storeys high and has five windows with irregular spacing. The ground floor includes two and three-light casements and fixed windows, while the first floor has three-light wood casements and fixed windows. There are 20th-century plank doors to the left of centre, aligned with the former cross-passage, and two doors to the right of centre leading to the former tack room and stabling. A 20th-century sleeper buttress is present at the centre of the building.

Inside, the roof structure is of mid jointed-cruck construction with collars and is pegged, featuring two sets of through-purlins. The interior has always been ceiled, with straight-chamfered ceiling beams that have run-out stops. There are remnants of plank-and-muntin partitioning on both floors, as well as remains of flagstones in the former cross-passage. The stabling area at the right-hand end has brick flooring, and there is an open fireplace at the left-hand end with stone jambs and a straight-chamfered cambered lintel.
