Description

Pear Tree Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dated 1737, as indicated by a stone tablet above the doorway. The building features rubble-stone walls with ashlar quoins and a Roman-tile roof, which was formerly thatched, topped with stone gable-copings. It has stone stacks with moulded cornices at the gable ends and stands two storeys tall with attics. The facade includes three windows on the ground floor, which have a continuous string-course above that steps up over the front doorway. The windows are hollow-chamfered stone mullions with renewed wood casements, consisting of three lights, except for the centre upper window, which has two lights. The front door, located at the centre, has recess panels and is a 20th-century addition.

Inside, there are open fireplaces at each end of the house, featuring dressed stone jambs and wood lintels. A half-spiral wood staircase is positioned in the corner next to the east end fireplace. The central hall is separated from the rooms by heavy plank-and-muntin partitioning. An attached outbuilding at the east end, dating from the 19th century, is constructed of rubble-stone with brick quoins and has a corrugated asbestos roof. This outbuilding is two storeys high and has one window with a brick-dressed wood casement.
