Description

Fitz Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house. The date 1713 is incised on the quoin at the southeast corner, and the building has been altered in the late 18th century and late 19th century. It is constructed from rubble stone and features a tiled and slate roof with gable end brick stacks. The farmhouse is two stories high with a two-window front. There is a disused central planked door with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, and a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement on either side. A string course runs at lintel level. On the first floor, there are two 3-light casements.

To the right, there is an integral single-storey kitchen range that has a 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement. The eaves have been raised in brick in the late 19th century, and the roof is slated. The right return of the kitchen features an external truncated brick stack with offsets, a 6-pane sash window to the right, and a 4-pane sash window on the first floor. This wall is constructed in Flemish bond brick with stone quoins. The right return of the main range has two single-light recessed chamfered casements in the attic. The left return has a steel casement on the first floor and a 2-light casement that has been inserted into a former mullioned casement, which retains its dripstone, in the attic.

At the rear, there is a glazed door and a 3-light casement on the rubble stone ground floor of an integral outshut. The eaves have been raised in brick to provide a first floor in the late 19th century, featuring two 6-pane sashes, one 4-pane sash, and one narrow sash under a flat roof. Inside, there is an open fireplace with a cambered chamfered lintel on stone jambs, and a chamfered beam with stepped stops. The west room has a blocked corner fireplace. Attached to the rear and connected by a 19th-century covered passage are 19th-century brick outbuildings with Welsh slate roofs and 20th-century casements, which are now used as stores and garages, along with a north outbuilding that has been converted into a cottage annexe.
