Description
This pair of semi-detached cottages, dating from the 16th century and altered in the 20th century, is located on Sandhills Road opposite Manor Farm. The cottages are constructed of rubble stone and part timber-framed, topped with a thatched roof featuring gable end brick stacks. They are single storey with an attic and have three windows.
The left cottage has a 20th-century door and a two-light casement window, along with a single-light and a four-light wood mullioned casement in a timber-framed bay to the right. There is also a blocked former fire or stair window to the right and a two-light casement in the raking dormer. The right-hand cottage features a 20th-century door, a single-light casement to the left, and a two-light fixed window to the right. The right return includes a 20th-century door and casements. The rear of the cottages has a 20th-century door, a blocked doorway, and 20th-century casements on the ground floor, along with a small casement window lighting the stairs and two raking dormers with two-light and three-light casements.
The interiors were not accessible during the survey in April 1986, but it is noted that they are said to contain crucks.
