Description

The Post Office is a pair of attached cottages located on the south side of Dorchester Road in Winterbourne Abbas. They date back to the 17th century and have undergone later alterations and extensions at the eastern end. The cottages feature banded flint and stone walls and have a corrugated asbestos roof, which is adorned with two stone gable copings at the front. There are three chimney stacks: a 20th-century brick stack on the left gable, a 19th-century stack at the ridge right of center, and another 19th-century stack on the right gable. The building is 1½ storeys high and has three windows on the left side, which are three-light stone mullions with separate labels over the ground and first-floor windows. The windows are fitted with wooden casements, while the right-hand end has two-light wooden casements. There are also two plank-and-muntin doors, both located to the right of center, dating from the 20th century. For more details about the interior, refer to the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, Dorset volume II, page 382.
