Description
The Cottage is a detached house located in Steepleton Village, dating from the late 17th century. It features rubble-stone walls with occasional flint banding and a thatched roof, which has a gable end on the left and a half-hip on the right. The left gable has a brick stack with 20th-century capping, while there is a 19th-century stack on the ridge to the right of center.
The building is two storeys high and has three windows. On the ground floor facing the road, there are two two-light 19th-century sash windows with wooden lintels. Above, there are three wooden-framed three-light windows with iron casements and lead lights. There is a blocked doorway just to the right of center.
An outhouse at the east end is constructed of rubble-stone and has a slate roof, with two small irregular 19th-century windows facing the road. The front doorway, which is now set back from the road, features a 20th-century stone porch with a pentice tile roof and a plank door.
