Description

Hardy Monument is a landmark and monument built in 1844 and restored in 1908 by Arthur Acland-Troyte Esq. It commemorates Admiral Sir Thomas Masterman Hardy, who passed away in 1839. The contractor for the project was Henry Goddard of Bridport. The monument is constructed from Portesham ashlar and features an octagonal tower approximately 70 feet high. It has a battered base, a heavy cornice, and a parapet, and it contains a spiral staircase that is illuminated through small slits.
