Description
The gates and gate piers at the south entrance to Abbey Close are constructed from ashlar and date from the 18th century. The gate piers feature a low plinth, capping, and ball finials. Each of the two gates has two lock rails adorned with inset scroll panelling and a top rail that has a slightly inverted curve. The uprights of the gates are topped with spiked finials, which alternate in height, rising either above the lock rail or above the topmost rail. These gates and piers are part of a group of listed buildings that includes the east end of No 1 Finger Lane.
