Description
The premises occupied by Sherborne Supermarket, including a rear wing, date from the late 18th century to the 19th century. The building is two storeys high with a four-window ashlar front that consists of two sections. It features a slate gabled roof. On the first floor, there are three-light sash windows, although the glazing bars are missing from the two windows on the left. The ground floor has three early to mid-19th century shop window openings with incised line ornament on the pilasters. There is a stone doorway, which has been converted into a window, that is flanked by similar pilasters supporting an entablature. At the right end of the ground floor, there is a sash window that is three panes wide.
The long rear wing, built in a 19th-century style, has a slate roof and is constructed of coursed stone rubble with ashlar dressings. The front facing Digby Street includes a modern one-storey addition with an entrance to the shop at the north end, two windows (one of which is blocked), and three windows above. Further south, there is another grouping of three windows on the ground and first floors, along with a group of two windows. These are modern windows with two tiers, featuring upper opening tiers and segmental head linings. There is also a ledged door. The south-east facing return of the building has two storeys with three window bays and a square-headed doorway on the ground floor.
The Corner House, the premises occupied by Sherborne Supermarket, The Plume of Feathers Hotel, and The House of Steps form a group with the premises occupied by C B Brett and Sons on Digby Road.
