Description

Nos 4 and 6 Westbury is a stone corner building dating from 1625, consisting of two storeys and an attic. It has been altered externally and is currently occupied by A and H Prout, which has origins from the 16th century. The building features moulded ceiling beams and a fireplace surround inside. The slate hipped roof includes one boxed dormer, and on the first floor, there are three 2-light casement windows with small panes. On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a 6-flush panelled door in a frame with a small fanlight above it, along with a lintel and advertisement board. To the right of this door is a 3-light sash window and a smaller paired sash window.

The Trendle Street side has a 3-light casement window with a wooden lintel on the first floor, and below it, a fixed window within a fluted frame. A tall brick stack is located at the eaves on the left side. The building has a slate gable roof with a wavy ridge and two box dormers with segmental heads. The stone front features, on the first floor from left to right, a 2-light casement and two sash windows, each three panes wide. On the ground floor, there is a shop front styled in the 19th century with a shop window featuring a fascia and moulded cornice, alongside a half-glazed shop door. To the right, there is another similar door and another sash window, also three panes wide.

Nos 4 and 6, along with other nearby premises, form a group with the Old Mitre and several other buildings, contributing to the historical character of the area.
