Description
The building on Trendle Street dates from around 1625 and is a two-storey structure with a stone rubble front, likely originating in the 17th century. It features a roof made of plain tiles and stone slates. On the upper floor, there are four metal-framed casement windows. The ground floor has a variety of features, including, from right to left, a three-light, two-tier fixed window; a modern doorway with a small rectangular fanlight and lintel; a sash window that is three panes wide; and another doorway with moulded pilasters, angle roundels, a triangular pediment, and a six-panelled door with the top two panels cut away and glazed. To the left, there is a notable shop front from around 1830-1840, which includes moulded pilasters, angle roundels, and a hood supported by a row of shaped brackets. This building is part of a group that includes Digby Estate No 169, occupied by P J Stainer, Trendle Cottage with its front garden wall, an outhouse range adjoining Trendle Cottage on the east side, premises occupied by E Brake, premises occupied by R W Hyde, and Digby Estate No 168, as well as premises occupied by A and W Prout and Nos 4 and 6, Westbury.
