Description
The Digby Estate, located on Trendle Street, features two cottages, numbered 170 and 171, dating from 1625. These two-storey cottages are similar in design to the adjacent property but are slightly taller. Notable architectural details include a voluted stone corbel supporting the kneeler at the foot of the gable parapet.
The roof is partially thatched, with the remaining section covered in patent pantiles. Cottage number 170 has a three-light window on the first floor to the right and a similar window on the left. On the ground floor, there are sash windows without glazing bars on either side of the doorway, which features a six-flush-panelled door in a frame.
Cottage number 171 has a three-light casement window above and a two-tier window below on the left side. The roof here is made of corrugated iron and thatch. To the right, the frontage is higher with a pantile roof, featuring a two-light modern wood casement window above and a three-light stone mullioned window below, along with a six-flush-panelled door, both equipped with drip moulding.
These cottages, known as Nos 4 and 2, are occupied by Mr. Hunt and form a group with the Hospital of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, located at Abbey Close.
