Description

The Digby Estate, located in Coldharbour, consists of a row of cottages numbered 33 to 38, built in the late 18th to 19th century. These two-storey cottages are constructed from stone rubble.

Cottage No. 33 features three windows on the upper floor and two windows with a central doorway below. It has a plaintile gabled roof and three-light wood casements, along with a half-glazed door topped by a pedimented hood. The building has an ashlar plinth.

Cottages Nos. 34, 35, and 36 are slightly taller than No. 33 and have slate gabled roofs with a shallower pitch. Each has one window bay and a door. The doorways are segmental headed. Nos. 34 and 35 have segmental headed two-light casements and ledged doors, while Nos. 36 and 37 feature modern two-light wood casements and modern ledged doors with glazed panels above. The doorway to No. 36 is adorned with a modern moulded segmental cornice above the voussoir.

Cottage No. 38, located beyond the entrance gates, has a slate gabled roof with the gable end facing the street. It includes one two-light wood casement above and two sash windows below, which have frames but no glazing bars. The south-west facing side has two window bays and a central doorway, featuring sashes without glazing bars, a four flush-panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight. There is a wing at the rear with a lower frontage and a pantile roof, which has two window bays, sashes without glazing bars, and a segmental headed doorway with voussoir.

The Digby Estate cottages, along with Nos. 1 and 2 Rose Cottage, the former Queen's Head Public House, The Cottage, and Nos. 46 to 50 of the Digby Estate, form a cohesive group.
