Description
The Britannia Inn is a Grade II listed building located in Westbury. It consists of two blocks, with the left block originally serving as a school founded by William, Lord Digby in 1745 for poor girls. This block is two stories high with a five-window stone rubble front that has a slight convex curve and a stone slate roof. The windows are wood casements, with those on the ground floor featuring segmental heads. There is also a commemorative tablet on this block.
The right block is likely of a similar date but has had its ground floor openings altered and features a later tiled roof with two hipped dormers and a three-window front. There is a yard entry at the right-hand end of this block.
The Britannia Inn and the surrounding premises, including A and W Prout, Nos 4 and 6, Digby Estate Nos 256 and 257, Devonia House, Harley House, Penarth House, and Pinehaven, form a group with the Old Mitre on Lower Acreman Street.
