Description
The Sherborne Do-it-Yourself Centre, also known as the Wessex Club, is located on the east side of Westbury and dates from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century. This two-storey building features a five-window ashlar front and has wide eaves. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor windows have been enlarged by half a pane at either end. The central doorway, which leads to the Wessex Club, is framed by stone Tuscan pilasters and an entablature, with a wrought iron bracket above that was formerly used for a sign. One of the ground floor sash windows has been replaced by a door leading to The Do-it-Yourself Centre. This building is part of a group that includes Digby Estate Nos 251 to 255, Twyford, Digby Estate No 247, Sherborne Gallery, Westbury Studio, Dolphin House, Estcourt, and Brookfield.
