Description

The Stores (Ellwood and Son) is a cottage and attached village store located on Longford Road, dating from the 18th century, with additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features rubble-stone walls and a thatched roof with gable ends, including two gabled and thatched dormers at the front. Brick stacks are positioned at the gable ends. The structure is 1½ storeys high and has two windows with 2-light wood casements, and a 3-light window on the right side at ground level. The front door, which is centrally located, has flush panels and two top lights, dating from the 19th century. The main thatch of the roof extends over the front door to create a continuous canopy.

At the south end, there is a 19th-century addition featuring a clay-tile roof, a 2-light wood casement window with glazing bars, and a gabled dormer, along with a 2-leaf door from the 19th century. The shop premises, attached at right angles to the north end, also have rubble-stone walls but are roughcast. This section has a clay-tile roof that is gabled at the front, a shop window with two large glass panes on either side of a central 2-leaf door, and a fascia board above. There is a 3-light casement window in the gable, which dates from the early 20th century.
