Description
Nos. 436 and 437 on Longford Road are a pair of early 19th-century cottages built from coursed rubble-stone with thatched roofs featuring half-hipped and gabled ends. Each cottage has two gabled dormers at the front. The cottages are 1½ storeys high and have an irregular arrangement of four windows.
No. 436 features three-light wood casements with glazing bars and two 2-light wood casements with glazing bars in the gabled half-dormers, which have brick-dressed jambs and brick above the window heads. No. 437 has a square bay window on each side of the front door and three-light casements from the 19th century. The gabled half-dormers on this cottage contain 2-light Yorkshire sliding-sashes with ornamental bressumers beneath the thatch.
The front door, located centrally, is flush-panelled with two top lights and is accessed by steps. There is a gabled wood porch with a carved bressumer. Inside, No. 437 has a lobby entrance and flagstone floors in the right room. This cottage was the home of the Fooks family of carpenters in the 19th century.
