Description

The Customs House is a building dating from 1845 to March 1846. It is two storeys high and originally had three window bays, with windows set within a pilastered portico featuring a moulded pediment. There are blank bays at either end of the building. The sash windows retain their original glazing bars. The front is stuccoed, and the double doors have three moulded panels, with the centre panel glazed. A large bracket projects from the first floor. Originally, there was a balcony to the first floor and railings to the ground floor. The Customs House forms a group with the Shell Shop and the Old Bonded Store Flats and shops and closes a vista at the south-west end of Marine Parade.
