Description

The Shell Shop, formerly known as The Old Watch House, is a building dating from the 19th century. It is located on Marine Parade.

The building is two storeys high with two window bays. It features a peaked slate roof above the left-hand bay, with a parapet extending over the right-hand bay. The front is stuccoed. The left-hand bay has a wide sash window on the first floor and a modern shop front on the ground floor. The right-hand bay has a sash window without glazing bars above, and below it, a ledged door with a glazed panel in the lower part. The south-west return has two widely spaced first-floor windows.

The building is listed at Grade II for group value, forming part of a group with numbers 14 to 20 (consec), Cobb House flats, The Old Bonded Store flats and shops, and the Customs House on Cobb Road. The Customs House partly closes the southward view from Marine Parade.
