Description
Portland View is a late 18th century to early to mid 19th century building located on the north side of Marine Parade. It projects forward from No 18 and features one window bay in return. The building has three storeys and a front with three window bays. The roof is slate hipped, and the first and second floors are clad in slate. The sash windows, which still have their glazing bars intact, include a splayed bay window in the left-hand bay on the first floor and a paired sash window in the right-hand bay on the ground floor. The doorway to No 19 is located to the left of the paired sash window and features a four-panelled door with a three-light rectangular fanlight above it. The doorway to No 20 is at the left-hand end, covered by a flat hood on brackets, and has a six-panelled door with a three-light rectangular fanlight.
Portland View is part of a group that includes Nos 14 to 20, Cobb House flats, the Old Bonded Store flats and shops, and the Shell Shop. The Customs House is situated at the south-west end of Marine Parade, partially closing the vista.
