Description
The sea wall at Cobb Hamlet is a sea defence wall built around the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and painted with tar. The wall has an L-shaped plan with a curved corner and features a slightly battered revetment that retains the higher ground on the landward side. On the seaward side, a shingle beach has built up, covering the lower levels of the wall. The maximum height of the wall is about 6 metres, although only approximately 2 metres is visible above the shingle. This information is based on Lieutenant Murdoch Mackenzie's 1787 plan of Lyme Cobb, which is held in a private collection.
